The "patented" linked list

Post by Observer » Tue May 15, 2007 9:39 am

To those who are interested in copyright issues: see this report about the patented linked list data structure:
http://www.google.com/patents?vid=USPAT7028023

Don't just see the title. It is not an ordinary linked list; it is... Please read through the whole report yourself, and see how we all can be an inventor. :D

(This is not a recent piece of news; I just find it interesting and want to share with all of you. Thanks.)

That clearly shows the idiocy of Software Patenting: any sufficiently skilled programmer can 'invent' such a data structure on the trot while programming, not knowing that he does 'something special' for which a patent exists. Same thing is true for 'patented' algorithms: most of them are so simple (like in data compression) that most real programmers would use them without even knowing it.

We live in a sad world: legislators that make decisions about these matters don't have a clue about what they are dealing with...
